Privacy Policy

Effective with TallyPlate 1.1 (updated October 12, 2026)

TallyPlate ("the app") is made by iView Global ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who can see it, how long we keep it and the choices you have. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't use your health information for advertising or marketing.

What we collect

InformationWhy
Account: email address, name, optional profile pictureSign-in, showing your name and picture to circles you join
Goal details: sex, date of birth, height, weight, target weight and date, activity level, calorie target, preferred unitsCalculating your daily calorie target and progress; your date of birth is also used to send you a birthday greeting
Health conditions you choose to add (for example diabetes or high blood pressure)Showing general tips and gentle warnings on meals. Never shared with circles.
Meals: foods, amounts, time eaten, meal photos, preparation steps and photos, favorites, your own custom foodsMeal planning and calorie tracking
Workouts: type, duration, calories, optional photos and notesTracking calories burned
Weigh-insProgress charts and weekly reports
Activity from Apple Health or Health Connect, only if you allow it: steps, active and resting energy, workouts, weight, height, body fat (on iPhone also distance and floors)Counting calories burned and filling in your weight
Approximate area, only if you turn on Local tips from your coach (TallyPlate Pro): your location rounded to about 10 km, taken only while you use the appSuggesting nearby parks, trails, beaches and events, and showing the day's weather. Deleted when you turn local tips off. Never shared with circles.
Photos you choose to analyse (TallyPlate Pro): a photo of your plate, or of a recipeSuggesting the foods and portions on your plate, or reading a recipe's steps. Sent to Google's Gemini AI service for that one request; we don't store these photos unless you also add them to your meal. Without Pro (or when the AI scan isn't available), a recipe photo is read on your phone itself and never leaves it.
Cuisines you enjoy (optional; "No preference" unless you choose)Putting familiar dishes first in "Suggested for you"
Your last 7 notifications (coach notes, reminders, circle news)Showing them under the bell in the app; older ones are deleted as new ones arrive
Your plan (free or Pro) and how many AI photos you used each dayTurning Pro features on and keeping within daily limits
Reports and blocks: shared meals you report (with the reason) and people you blockReviewing reports and hiding content you don't want to see
Device information: push notification token, time zone offset, phone type (iPhone or Android)Sending the notifications you turn on, at the right local time, and fixing problems
App usage: which parts of the app you use each day (for example the barcode scanner, recipes or circles), with your phone type, app version, plan and your phone's region setting (country; in the US also its time zone, such as Central)Seeing which features people use, so we can improve them. Our dashboard only shows totals, never who used what.
Error reports: where in the app an error happened, the error message and technical details, your user id and phone typeFinding and fixing bugs. Error reports never include your meals, weight, calories or health conditions.

If you allow it, the app can also read heart rate, sleep, blood glucose and blood pressure from Apple Health (iPhone only) to show them on your phone. These readings are not saved on our servers. If you choose to share meals back, the app writes the meals you log to Apple Health or Health Connect as nutrition entries.

Apart from the approximate area above (only if you turn local tips on), we don't collect your location, and we don't collect contacts, advertising identifiers or browsing activity, and we don't use third-party analytics or crash-reporting services. When a new account finishes setup, or when the app or our servers hit an error, our team receives an email with your name, email address, user id and phone type (for a new account) or the error details above. These emails never contain health information.

Apple Health and Health Connect

Health data is read only with your permission, which you can change at any time in the Health app (iPhone) or Health Connect settings (Android). Data read from these services is used only to provide the app's features to you. It is not used for advertising, not sold, not shared with third parties for their own purposes, and not used to make decisions about credit, insurance or employment. TallyPlate's use of information received from Health Connect follows the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Circles: what others can see

Circles are private groups you create or join with an invite code. Members of a circle can see your name, profile picture, challenge status (Behind, On target or Beyond) and the meals you choose to share. A shared meal shows what you made: its photos, each food with its portion and nutrition, how you prepared it (steps and step photos), your notes and your share note. Other members can save their own copy of a meal you shared to their favorites; that copy is theirs and does not include your name. Your saved foods list, health conditions, weight, daily calories, and meals you don't share stay private. The circle's admin (the person who created it, or whoever they hand the role to) can remove members, and can delete the whole circle; A circle can have a picture, which any member can add or change (unless the admin allows only themselves); only the circle's members see it and who set it, and it is deleted with the circle. Members can comment on shared meals, mention other members of the circle with @ (the person mentioned gets a notification), and like comments; other members see the comment, your name and picture, and who liked it. When someone leaves a circle or is removed, the meals they shared in that circle are deleted with all comments on them; their comments on other members' meals stay, shown as "Former member" without their name or picture. You can remove a meal you shared, or delete your own comments, at any time; the person who shared a meal and the circle's admin can delete comments on it. If you report a shared meal or a comment, our team sees the report and what was reported, and the person isn't told who reported it. If you block someone, you stop seeing their shared meals; they aren't told.

Who processes your data

The app stores data in Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions and Cloud Messaging), operated by Google LLC in the United States, acting as our service provider. Food searches use a copy of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's FoodData Central database kept on our servers, so no personal information is sent to USDA.

Pro features. Plate and recipe photos are analysed by Google's Gemini models on Vertex AI (Google Cloud), acting as our service provider; Google does not use this data to train its models. For local tips, our servers look up places from OpenStreetMap (via the Overpass API), the forecast from the U.S. National Weather Service and events from Ticketmaster using only your rounded area, never your name or account. Recipe searches go from our servers to TheMealDB, and for TallyPlate Pro's More recipes and "Suggested for you" to Spoonacular, without your name or account. For suggestions, our servers turn your calorie target, the health conditions you added and the cuisines you enjoy into search filters (for example "breakfast, Indian, under 45 g carbs"); Spoonacular receives only those filters. Links to events open Ticketmaster's site, which has its own privacy policy.

We may disclose information if required by law.

How long we keep it

Your choices

Security

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google Cloud. Access rules let only you read your own data, and let circle members read only what is shared to that circle.

Children

TallyPlate is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
